2 Month Pictures

Even though Logan is now closer to 3 months, I just now got back his 2 month old pictures. I took him just to Target and was quite pleased with the results. Here are our favorites of our cute little guy.

Stomach Bug

Over the last week Ben and I have both come down with some sort of flu or stomache bug. Ben had it last week and missed two days of work. I came down with it late last night. I spend the whole night in the bathroom throwing up. I ruined my streak of not throwing up since like 6th grade. I can't even remeber the last time I did to be honest, but it has been a long time. I am very fortunate to not get very sick very often. The bug I got now though has not been fun. Ben and I have been struggling with how to be good parents when feeling like crap. This is definitely one of the areas of parenthood I was not looking forward to. However, we survived the day and everyone is still alive. Logan was super fussy tonight. He just cried from about 6pm on till I just got him to go to bed at 9:30. Nothing is more frustrating than feeling helpless and watching your kid cry. I am still not sure what was wrong with him, but I somehow got him to finally go to sleep. Ben was wonderful at taking care of me today when I felt sick and taking over with Logan when I just didn't know what else to do. Although both of us will admit our patience is little when we are sick, I think we make a good tag team and made it through our first family sickness.

Logan's Two Month Stats

Logan is officially two months old now. He went to his two month appointment yesterday. He now weighs 9lbs 1oz and is 22.5 inches long. Our pediatrician told us that Logan is in the bottom 5% for his weight, height and head measurements. He isn't very concerned about it. Logan is gaining about a half an ounce a day. Our doctor told us that most babies gain a half an ounce to an ounce and a half a day, so he is just on the lower end of normal. So although we think he is getting lots bigger I guess he is still a pretty small baby.

I forgot that they give them lots of shots at this appointment. He took the one by mouth very well they were all suprised. He will pretty much suck anything out of a syringe. The other shots (Hepatits B, Polio, Whopping Cough, DaTP, Rotovirus) were given to him in his legs. I was impressed with the execution of these shots. They had two nurses come in and they both took a leg and shot him three times in each leg in a matter of seconds. Of course Logan wasn't too happy about this, but he did well.

After the doctor appointment, we went to Target to get two month old pictures of Logan. It wasn't very good planning on my part to take him to get pictures after he got shots. Nevertheless, he was a very good baby and wasn't too upset at that point. I was impressed with how well the pictures went. They got some really good pictures and I am excited to pick them up. I will post themhere when we receive them but that won't be for another week or so.

In the meantime, here are some pictures of Logan we have taken.

When we got home from the pictures Logan seemed to be in quite a bit of pain from his shots. His legs were all red and swollen. I felt so bad for the little guy. I tried everything to comfort him and he just was upset. I started to walk around with him and he finally just put his head down on my chest and went right to sleep. Poor guy. He seems to be doing just fine now but I think his legs were quite sore yesterday.
Logan has been sleeping 9 or so hours at night. He is a good sleeper and mom and dad are very grateful. He still loves his swing and going for car rides in his carrier. He has started smiling and "talking" to us with gurgles and cries. He loves it when you sing his name to him. It never fails to get a smile from him. Logan and I have finally mastered the breastfeeing and things in that area are going much better. Ben and I have loved being parents.

10 years ago today...
I was in Ninth grade at North Ogden Junior High probably competing in something nerdy like the National Academic League. I was sporting the short A line haircut from which people started calling me mushroom cause it was so fluffy. I think this is where I learned I have a long neck and that I have a lot of hair. I had just finished my growth spurt and was over 5 feet tall but all gangly.

5 things on my to-do list today:
1. Fold Laundry
2. Make up some work hours from home.
3. Research places to go on vacation.
4. Update blog with posts
5. Take a nap

I enjoy:
hanging out with family and friends, being a mom, playing with my dog, doing agility with my dog, cooking if I have time, eating chocolate, walking, planning, going on vacations, and sleeping.

What would I do if I were suddenly a billionaire?
I would pay off our house and cars and perhaps upgrade to a bigger house. I would hire someone to help me clean the new house cause I am just not a detailed cleaner. I would hire Stacey and Clinton to help me figure out how to dress myself in a stylish manner and go on a shopping spree. I would buy Ben a huge flatscreen and all the Mac computer stuff he wanted. I would travel the world with Ben and Logan and take my family on several cruises. I would quit my job so I was able to do this traveling and be a mom. I would donate money to charities like Guide Dogs for the Blind and I would invest the rest to use for things like Logan's education in the future.

3 of my bad habits:
1. Just putting things away and not deep cleaning.
2. Taking things too personally.
3. Picking at scabs or peely skin.

5 places I have lived:
1. North Ogden, UT
2. Salt Lake City, UT (dorms at the U)
3. Ogden, UT (our first apartment on 12th street)
4. Kaysville, UT
5. Farmington, UT

5 jobs I have had:
1. Idelwire Pet Care. I had this job during high school. I worked as a kennel technican for 3 years. I would feed the dogs, clean their runs and most importantly play with them in the play yard.
2. Zions Bank. Once I went to the University of Utah I got a job at Zions Bank as a roaming teller. I would go and fill in for branches when they needed extra help. I did this for about a year and then was hired on to a branch in Layton where I worked for 3 years as a supervisor.
3. Infinity Mortgage. Once I got sick of processing people's transactions every day I decided I needed a change and went to work for a mortgage company to help process mortgage loans. It was nice I worked here when we bought our house as I got to get a "free" loan for it.
4. Raymond James. When I graduated with a degree in Finance I decided the mortgage industry wasn't for me and I went to work for my father-in-law at Raymond James. He is a Financial Advisor and I help do everything from reblancing client's accounts, opening accounts to establishing financial plans. I have obtained my Series 7 lisence which is fancy for saying I can sell securities to individuals.
5. Mom. My most recent job that didn't come with instructions.

5 things people don't know about me:
1. I used to raise Guide Dogs for the Blind and Canine Companions for Independence. These were service dogs trained to help blind or disabled people. I loved doing this as a kid as I got to take my dog to stores and school. I thought I was cool!!
2. I learned to play the bagpipes. Although I will not profess to being good at it I could play "Amazing Grace" on a set of pipes at one point. I learned this skill for a group I was in called Job's Daughters.
3. I still have plug my nose when I go under water. Nothing like seeing a grown woman jumping off the diving board with her hand on her nose.
4. I hate wearing jeans. I also sported the stretch pants as a child and didn't even own a pair of jeans until like 7th grade. I still don't enjoy jeans. The instant I come home from work I change into some pajama pants!!
5. I used to suck my thumb as a child. Ben also did and Logan has already found his thumb!

I tag Amanda, Allyson and Clyda.

New Pictures

Logan is quickly growing and is close to 8lbs now we think. He is starting to recognize him mom and dad and give them more smiles each day. Here are a few more fun pictures of him.

I just love this picture it make me laugh. We caught him in the middle of a sneeze or something.

All dressed up and ready to go in his hoodie!!!

Logan hanging out on the couch with his brother Cayman.

Chilling patiently in his carrier while his dad worked on his homework.

Logan's New Toy

Last week we finally received the Fisher Price Baby Papsan Nature Swing that we had ordered for Logan. We did a lot of research trying to decide what swing to get. Based on the reviews we read we finally settled on this one and all of us are very pleased.

This is the position that Logan gets in every time you put him in the swing. There is a mirror above him that he just loves to look in. He is starting to coo and almost laugh at himself in the mirror. It is so much fun to watch. He honestly doesn't care if he is swinging at first as he is perfectly content with the mirror.

After a few minutes, however, he starts to doze off. This swing has been a lifesaver for me so that I can get ready or some errands. I often feel guilty that he spends so much time sitting in his swing. However, at least I know we will get our money's worth out of the swing.

Back to Work

Last week was my first week back at work from maternity leave. I had so many emotions running through my mind as I went back to work. I wasn't sure how I would feel leaving Logan for so long, who I would leave him with, how I would feel at work or how I was going to get somewhere before noon.

My first day back at work was a bit emotional. I was ok to be at work for the first few hours but then soon began to wish I was at home with Logan. Coming back to work after being gone for six weeks can be a bit overwhelming. As the day progressed I began to feel more behind and the tasks of work piling up on me. However, I survived the day without crying and came home to a happy baby who acted as if I never left.

I have decided to try to work 3 days a week and about 25 hours. Although I didn't quite make 25 hours my first week back, I did successfully make it somewhere before noon. I won't lie, it has been hard adjusting to being a part time employee. When you are not in the office all day you somehow start to feel left out on many things that are happening. I have worked full time for so long now that I somehow feel like I am giving up on my career.

With all that said I feel like I have come to a good balance between a career and being a mom and I am very grateful for my job and my ability to do both. I have enjoyed getting out of the house a few days of the week but being able to cuddle and play with my boy the other days. I hope the future weeks go as well as the first week did.

Looking back on the week I feel very lucky to have such a wonderful family and friends that have been so willing to watch Logan to make my transition back to work easier. I am so grateful for all they did to help me out. It was so much easier leaving Logan in hands I fully trustred. I also have a wonderful work that has been very flexbile and willing to work with me.
